Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Parish
Monaca, Pennsylvania

Please contact St. John the Baptist Pastoral Center for information on participating in any of the following parish ministries:
Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharistic - assist the priest in the distribution of Holy Communion during Mass and take the Eucharist to homebound parishioners; and on occasion, to those in nursing facilities and hospitals within the area. Training and diocesan permission is required. Please contact the parish office if you are interested in serving in this ministry.
Lectors - proclaim the Word of God to His people, lead the congregation during the Prayers of the Faithful, and make announcements. Lectors are expected to prepare during the week prior to serving by praying and reviewing the readings of the Mass for which they are scheduled. Please contact the parish office if volunteering for this ministry interests you.
Altar Servers - assist the presider and other ministers throughout the liturgy, developing their sense of participation in parish life. Altar servers are selected from volunteer candidates and, after a period of formation, are scheduled to serve at Masses, funerals, weddings and special liturgies.

Call for Altar Servers
Attention all 3rd thru 12th grade students! This is your chance! You are invited not only be a part of an excellent group of altar servers, but now is your opportunity to also assist your parish and give a special gift to God. To learn more, please contact Deacon Tony at the Pastoral Center by calling 724.775.3940. We look forward to hearing from you!
Music Ministry - The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as sacred song united to the words, it forms a necessary or integral part of the solemn liturgy.
  • Parish Choir - is responsible for enhancing the liturgy with appropriate sacred choral music and for supporting the musical participation of the congregation. For those desiring to join, please contact either the parish office, the parish director of music, or a current choir member. Previous choral experience or the ability to read music is not necessary, but helpful. It is necessary to have a pleasant, trainable singing voice; a spirit of dedication and cooperation; along with a love for sacred music, as well as the Church and God’s people.
Ushers - welcome and, at times, seat people who come to church for weekend and special Masses as well as other services and devotions. They identify and direct the gift bearers at Mass, take up collections, and assist in guiding people at communion time and during processions. Ushers also attend to unexpected needs that may arise while on duty.
Wedding Coordinators - assist couples in making their wedding a prayerful, joyful and smooth running occasion. The ministry involves working cooperatively with the pastor, clergy, the parish music/liturgy personel and church staff.

Coordinators need to be familiar with the Catholic liturgical guidelines, especially those associated with the celebration of the
Sacrament of Matrimony, and will assist with:
  • Ensuring the church and bridal party's area are prepared for the rehearsal and wedding ceremony
  • Offering direction to the wedding party during the rehearsal and actual ceremony
  • Explaining the logistics of the wedding (meaning who needs to be where when)
  • Monitoring various aspects of the ceremony to ensure they go accordingly
  • Informing musicians, florists, photographers/videographers regarding the use of the church and appropriate placement of instruments/arrangements/equipment
A team of coordinators work with the couple at the church rehearsal and again on the wedding day. (For those interested in this ministry, please contact Deacon Tony at 724.775.3940.)
