Christian Mothers
A spiritual organization, now the Archconfraternity of Christian Mothers, whose charter was enacted in the Fall of 1949, is made up of women from the parish whose main goals are the Catholic education of children and the welfare of St. John the Baptist Parish Community and Church.

Every woman is called to
spiritual motherhood. Through devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows and various activities, the Confraternity of Christian Mothers strives to assist the pastor and parish community to uphold Catholic Christian values by promoting the spiritual growth of individuals and families by prayer, the practice of virtues, and encouraging one another. Meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of each month from September to April. Non-members can also participate by taking part in the many activities held throughout the year to promote family, fellowship, and devotion.

Substance Addiction Ministry
The parish-based Substance Addiction Ministry (SAM) is a program of the National Catholic Council on Addictions, an affiliate of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. This new ministry, being established in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, is to offer hope, healing and reconciliation to both the afflicted and affected. "Addiction disconnects people: from self, loved ones, and God. SAM's mission is to help these people re-connect: with self, loved ones, and God. SAM is a support ministry that helps people face the challenges that accompany addiction." (www.nccatoday.org).

Saints Peter and Paul Church, Beaver is designated host parish for SAM in Vicariate 3, District 5. A core team of interested individuals from parishes within District 5 have been actively participating in diocesan led trainings since May 2014. The SAM team mission is to:
  • increase awareness of addiction through education as offered to various ministries and groups within the parish family and the community at large
  • provide a safe, confidential place for parishioners to call for help and receive appropriate referral and support
